Keno is a lottery or bingo gambling game often played at modern casinos that originated from China and is called baige pio which means “white pigeon tickets” because pigeons were used to communicate the winning results of the game from the greater cities to the small villages in the country, and pronounced as pak-kok-piu in Cantonese. Keno has French root quine five winning numbers or Latin root quini five each.
Keno is played using a Keno card that is numbered 1 through 80, arranged in 8 rows of 10 numbers. Players will choose a number anywhere between 1 and 20 different numbers on their card. Some casinos may limit the amount of numbers that can be selected to 1 to 10 numbers, 12 numbers, 15 numbers or any other amount. The numbers each player chooses are the numbers that the player is wagering on. Once all players have marked off their Keno cards the drawing occurs.
In an Internet based Keno, numbers are drawn at random using random number generator software. 20 random numbers, between 1 and 80, are drawn in each drawing. Once the balls are drawn all of the submitted Keno cards are checked and winners are determined. The player will be paid based on the pay table at the casino where they are playing if these numbers are drawn.
Keno bets can be as low as 10 cents or even 5 cents (varied from one casino to another of course), although some casinos only accept bets of $1 or more. The house’s Keno brochures provide you data about payoffs and various tickets you can play.
The sum of money you win is dependent upon the type of card you play and the number of ‘keno spots’ caught. You may play as many keno tickets as you desire. There are a number of keno tickets a player can select from some examples are:
Straight Tickets: first determine how many spots you want to play. Casinos allow a player to choose 1 to 15 spots, some 20, 32 or even 40 numbers on a straight ticket. Then determine how much to wager. Common straight tickets cost $1.00 although some offer $70 cent or lower. A player can also play multiples of the base rate. But be aware in playing multiples, make sure the aggregate limit on any one game because casino will not pay more than the aggregate limit.
Split Tickets: Is two or more straight tickets Each logical ticket consists of a group of numbers that are either circled, or separated by a line. Each group of numbers must have it’s own unique numbers, and can not share numbers with any other group. It simply allows you to play two or more games on the same piece of paper. One disadvantage is that you can not use the same number more than once.
Way Tickets: If it is more convenient for you to mark multiple games on a single ticket, a way ticket may be for you.
Combination Tickets: It allow players to combine groups of straight bets on one ticket in various ways with the player wagering one unit for each possible combination. Players can also combine straight bets and way bets on one ticket. The groups bet on a combination ticket should be clearly marked on the right hand side of the ticket.
King Tickets: it is not used alone but rather can be used in tandem along side other numbers to make up straight, way and/or combination tickets.
Special Tickets: played in a certain pre-determined manner and pays off using a different pay schedule, usually offer slightly better deals than other keno tickets and are used to entice players.
The one thing that you may notice about keno when you look at the numbers, is that the odds don’t seem as good as some of your other games. The reason is, unlike with the game of blackjack or craps, keno offers the chance to win a life altering amount of money in a single bet. Other games only offer small wins, but may offer them more consistently. Keno odds are more about what your chances of becoming really rich are, not what your chances of winning a few bucks.
One of the most important keno tips is to pay close attention to the game. Since the prizes can only be claimed before the next game starts, making sure that the correct numbers are marked off and that none are omitted is your way to the riches, given of course that you have picked the right numbers. When you’ve paid for your ticket, keeping a close eye on the numbers can only work to your best interest, especially in cases where you have spent a large amount of money.
When playing online keno get a feel of the game first. It’s virtually impossible to simulate true randomness electronically. Because the computer uses different algorithms to imitate a random draw, playing your numbers in patterns instead of spreading them out all over can sometimes work to your advantage.
When gambling, despite the game you’ve chosen to play, keeping an eye on your bankroll is also very important. With all the distractions that are part of the casinos, many lose track of how much they’re spending, that leads to financial problems. Workout exactly how much you’re willing to spend and not to go above that limit. Gambling is very amusing, but just like anything else, has to be done in moderation.
Keno is a game of pure luck, although there are several ways to play the game, they don’t necessarily give better odds, there’s really no strategies for playing keno. The reality is that the balls don’t come up any more than chance dictates.
