Roulette: Basics, Rules and Tips
Roulette is a game named after a French diminutive for little wheel. It is one of the simplest games to play when you gamble, yet it can make you very nervous, and it can make your hair stand on end. Each time the ball bounces you will hope that you are lucky with the draw and the ball will stop on the color and number you have chosen.
There are two kinds of roulette the European roulette that consists of 37 colored and numbered pockets on the wheel, and the American roulette that has 38 colored and numbered pockets on the wheel.
American roulette wheel has greater number than European, because of the additional double zero (00) number on its wheel. The numbers 1 to 36 have alternating colors of either black or red and the double zero has a green color.
Players may choose to place in either the colors red or black and place either in a single or multiple range of numbers, whether it is odd or even including zero using chips. Then a Coupier spins the wheel in one direction and the ball at the opposite direction around a tilted circular track running around the circumference of the wheel, once the ball looses its momentum it will stop in one of the 37 or 38 colored and numbered pockets on the wheel this method is for the land based roulette.
With roulette game offered at any given online casino, a Coupier is not needed. Instead, you will hear the dealer say “place your bets,” and the wheel cannot be spun until you have placed all your bets. The player can place in either the colors red or black and place either in a single or multiple range of numbers whether it is odd or even including zero and then the game itself or the system will toss the ball into the wheel as it spins. As the wheel spins the ball rattles, hops and pops around the wheel until the time it comes to a stop in one of the 37 or 38 colored and numbered pockets on the wheel.
Roulette players have two options in placing bets in either the inside betting area and the outside betting area. In an inside betting area a player can choose either selecting the exact number of the pocket the ball will land in, or a small range of pockets based on their proximity on the layout. There are several ways in placing a bet inside the area. These are:
- Straight up – is a single number bet. A player will bet directly on one number.
- Split bet – or placing the chip on the line between two numbers.
- Street bet – or placing your chip on the edge of the line of a number at the end of the line which will scope the numbers in that row in either horizontal or vertical.
- Corner bet – where the chip is placed at the horizontal and vertical intersection of the lines between the four numbers.
- Six line bet – a bet on two adjoining streets, with the chip placed at the corresponding intersection, as if in between where two street bets would be placed.
On the other hand, the outside betting area is where a player makes bets on groups of numbers as well as red, black, even or odd. The house edge on the outside bets are 5.26 for games using the double zero wheel. You cannot combine outside bets with inside bets to meet the table minimum. If the table minimum is five dollars you must make five dollars worth of outside bets. You could not bet three dollars on the outside and two dollars on the inside.
Sounds easy but there are so many different kinds of betting options in a roulette wheel. It is said that roulette wheel is a guessing game that is complex and deep that it would take a player years trying to master the game. The outcome is usually based on chance the best roulette players are the one’s that have the best knowledge of probability and mathematics and of course luck.
Tips:
Avoid betting on single slots the chances of winning is very little. Set your financial limit, have a certain amount of money to gamble and stick to it in order to avoid financial losses and increase you debits. If you have made a loss in one session don’t try to play roulette until you have win your money back, there’s always tomorrow. Never double up your bets it will lead you to a higher and quicker losses. Set aside your winnings if you make a big win then lose it all again then this is a sure sign of greed wanting to grow your funds too quickly. Don’t gamble money that you cant afford to loose and if you can, avoid drinking alcohol while betting it might impair your judgment in betting.
